Our Curriculum

Grade R

For young children, play is often a full-body activity that helps them develop skills they will need later in life. Running, dancing, climbing, rolling—these activities all foster muscle development and help fine-tune motor skills. Children also build their mental and emotional muscles as they create elaborate, imaginative worlds rich with a system of rules that govern the terms of play.

Students are also given an opportunity to bring stories to life through dramatic play. When children are given opportunities to act out scenes and express themselves, they improve their social confidence, increase their ability to see the perspectives of others and increase the attention they give to the literature.

Grade 1 - 3

From Grade 1 to Grade 3, learners are actively engaged in exploring the various learning areas available as per the CAPS curriculum. These are the stepping stones for their preparation for the Senior Primary Phase but we have added a number of programmes to enhance and deepen the learning experience.

Emotional intelligence and Entrepreneurship is integrated within every subject. All learners are introduced and taught various skills to be able to successfully navigate the world of LEGO® Robotics.

Grade 4 - 7

The outcomes we are aiming for during this phase of the learner’s development is an increased sense of wellbeing, self-confidence, productivity, motivation, stress management and improved interpersonal skills.

During the journey from Grade 4 to Grade 7, learners are actively engaged in exploring the various additional learning opportunities available, such as, LEGO® Robotics and Mobile Application Development.

Grade 8 - 12

At the core, Canaan College is characterised by building and sustaining high quality, authentic interpersonal relationships. The academic programme with a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship – together with the sport, cultural and extra mural programmes – instil and promote our core values, namely, honesty, environmental consciousness, care for others, social responsibility and healthy living.
